"The Boss In London"

Mike Allen's involvement in Hip Hop in the UK is legendary.  He started off broadcasting on Capital Radio in the 1970s.

Mike Allen (born 1942) is a British radio presenter, who was last on the air hosting an evening show on 102.2 Smooth Radio in London. He left in December 2008.

Mike is known for his distinctive velvety voice and has regularly been heard on the airwaves for a number of years. His credits include stints presenting shows on Capital Radio (where his broadcasting career began), Talk Radio, LBC and 102.2 Smooth FM. Mike joined Smooth FM's replacement 102.2 Smooth Radio when it opened in March 2007, and presented the evening show (8pm-12am) from Saturdays to Thursdays until December 2008. He used to do weekend lunchtimes (Saturday 10am-1pm & Sunday 1-5pm) but Lynn Parsons took those slots and Mike moved to Lynn's evening slots and the Saturday Lunchtime Slot was extended to 10am-2pm.

He also was one of the first pioneers of electro/hip hop music in the mid 80s, hosting his own very successful show on Capital Radio, going on to MC at the UK Fresh festival at Wembley in 1986 which featured artists such as Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa.

Mike has recently appeared on TalkSport radio over Christmas 2009 on the 1am to 6am phone-in slot at times where the normal presenter was away.
