Four Star General was the original legendary one stop shop for all your Hip Hop needs. Originally in Carnaby Street Soho (downstairs I think) then relocating to Camden where it moved a couple of times in the early 90s. I am hoping people will put videos and pictures up. Below is a picture of Waxer from 1990 aged 17 rockin' a 4 Star T shirt, and another of my original tag buckle bought in 1988 I think from 4 star, a bit worse for wear after losing the I trying to drunkenly B Boy!

You could get custom graf T Shirts/hoodies/4 finger rings/tag buckles spray paint, fat laces etc. The shop was well known for Starter jackets and Troop gear. Below is a still from Lowdown showing the Troop trainers the same that I had, the Troop "Solution"

For me this was the store to be in...my first visit was in around 1988 located in the downstairs of a shop on carnaby street,Troop jackets and tracksuits,Taskforce jackets, leather puffas, louis vuitton and gucci merchandise...i remember spending an hour or two in it every time i visited london and he always had a full store of UK heads and other foreigners like myself at any time, but would never let you take a photo in the store...i remember a guy called elvis who was a regular there who i found out later in years was involved with bullit management (London Posse)and name checked on various ladbroke grove 12" covers...i remember the morning after Cutmaster Swift winning the 1989 World DMC championships in the shop getting a cup of champange from george himself and the place full of uk talent all celebrating swifts victory and discussing the UK hustlers convention which was on after the DMC's,an unkown irish kid in amongst it all and loving it,even managed to get my photo eventually on his wall of fame in his shop which he had a pic of me and him backstage at the 90 world finals in hammersmith's le palais...he then moved to 2-3 places in camden town and my last visit to his store was in 93...is he still around?..nice guy Mr Four Star General

Excellent story Rabbi! I have many memories of Four Star General myself, including the purchase of my second DJ mixer in 1988, I bought the original Gemini with the wooden sides, the same one Cash Money used on N Sign Radio, also later came out as a signature Jazzy Jeff edition, from Four Star. I used to love hanging about in there and back in 96 I did a jam in Pompey and went up there flyering the event and George helped me out, he was a nice guy and I have fond memories. Got my tag buckle from there, "KRIM", various T Shirts, I have pictures of me in a 4 star T SShirt I'll upload here. I'll be adding to this page soon!!!

Always a place i used to hit when i made the journey from Bournemouth to London. My first experience was in Carnaby St. when it was down stairs, I remember seeing rails of leather goose jackets, tracksuits, rope chains, 2/3/4 finger rings & all the latest freshest trainers. I recall buying a full length FILA tracksuit & red suede FILA kicks. Also copped a 3 finger Gucci ring & a dooky gold chain. I was the man when i got back to `sleepy old` Bournemouth hahaha.
Another thing that sticks in the old memory bank is the custom art t-shirts, i remember standing in the shop watching the geezer spray paint the shirts.
George was real cool & very helpful. I also got mix tapes, magazines & records from there.
After seeing your dodgey haircut WAXER, i`m sure i saw you in there once haha. I too attempted a high top fade which wasn`t too bad because my hair is quite thick.
Bring back 4STAR & ALL the old independant record shops, WE MISS YOU....!!!!!!

4 Star was legendary. We used to go up to the Big Smoke most weekends to buy records and then to skateboard at places like meanwhile and Ladbroke Grove. 4 Star's was one of our regular haunts along with Groove and Hitman. I remember hearing PE's 'Yo Bum Rush the Show' for the first time there and of course buying fake gold chains etc...
